Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day…
As two great authors said: ‘Coincidences are God’s way of remaining anonymous’. Yesterday, I called up our friend Mateo, who helped us with the apartment and a few other things in Buenos Aires. We met outside of the apartment. Discussed a few things, had a transaction and then started talking about things in Buenos Aires. He told me that until a year ago, he used to live right in the next building. Given that we’ve explored quite a bit in the 5 km radius of our apartment, I asked him if he had favorites of the restaurants around the area. He mentioned a couple that I knew, then he asked me if we had sushi. I told him about my last post and he said that he hadn’t read it yet. So, he reminded me that his wife is Japanese and he knows a few great restaurants around the area. The one he recommended, Maki Sushi (don’t we have Maki Sushi in Atlanta too?), which was about 15 blocks from our apartment. He called, made a reservation, which wasn’t really required, because we were going to go there around 7:30 (they open at 7:00), and until 9:00 – 9:30 the restaurants here look like city of Pripyat We took a taxi cab to the place. Small restaurant, only 7 bar seats. Good sushi. Between Andrei and Anna they shared about 20 pieces of salmon sushi (I helped with some of the rice). Louisa and I devoured some ceviche, sushi and sashimi. Overall, really good experience.
Earlier that morning, Louisa discovered a small, very Italian restaurant (bar, cafe, bistro) 5 minutes walk from our apartment. We went there for a quick bite. Awesome pizza and the atmosphere. Hope some of the photos will convey it. Owner had photos with every celebrity imaginable. His cat was quite friendly too 🙂
Learning Russian language isn’t just important because about 300 million people in the world speak it, but you can also read: ‘Marina (heart – loves) Ljoshik’ text on the graffiti in Buenos Aires:
We must have some new neighbors who moved in and thought that the bathtubs are overrated (especially, the pink ones):
