Favorite disease.

A famous actor gets a disease – s/he starts supporting that disease cause. Popular musician’s or sportsman’s kid gets a disease – they support that cause. Louisa and I discovered the Selective Mutism and, suddenly, we want to devote our efforts to it. Friend of mine’s kid has a colitis (variation of Chrone’s) disease and he’s very active in “those circles” trying to help find a cure. Are we all selfish or self centered when it gets to supporting causes that are close to our home? If our kids were hungry, would we support better the kids that starve in Equatorial Guinea? Does it cross our minds less, because we can order the most amazing pizza in the world (eating one, as I type, literally), therefore supporting causes like hunger, malaria, cholera and typhoid driven more by a feeling of guilt or doing-the-right-thing versus passionately believing the cause? How can Selective Mutism be in the same galaxy with Cholera or AIDS, meanwhile it’s so close to our hearts.

Last night with some close friends of mine, and we had an open discussion about life and stuff. I felt like such a spermologer and I believe that beef-witted should be brought back to common lexicon!

On an unrelated note, a friend of mine (loosely speaking), sent me this link:

– I think that BA nailed it.
