Is water a great liberator?
Not because our bodies are 80% water (I don’t get this, but science says so). Not because of being dehydrated on the tennis court in 105 degree August heat on Sunday afternoon, that water tastes holy, but what happens with our brains in the shower?
There are many great public speakers. Steve Jobs (RIP) had the magical ability to introduce products. His ‘… and one more thing …’ would make the crowds, following the text of the speech on the internet, teary-eyed. Andy Stanley of Northpoint Ministries. He’s the most amazing preacher of our time. Having thousands of people feel that he’s talking to each one directly – divine orator. Tony Robbins, Bill O’Reilly, JFK, MLK, Churchill, there are so many great ones. Meanwhile, talking to a friend, who specializes in social anxiety and has three decades of experience, public speaking is one of the most common social disorders. People, with position of power, executives, lawyers, bankers, top-notch successful people have a strong anxiety of public speaking. Almost paradoxically, the titans of industries, powerful execs, boardroom sharks and … fear of public speaking.
On the other hand, in the shower, when we converse (orate) with ourselves, silently discuss ideas, quietly deliberating intelligent thoughts without any concerns of anyone hearing – we become those awesome orators, don’t we? Or that liberating sounds of the shower turns us to Andrea Bocellis or Engelbert Humperdincks, Grace Slicks or Adeles. What happens? Why does the shower/water liberate our convictions about our abilities (inabilities?) to be great debaters, captivating orators or mesmerizing singers? The word baptisto means immersing in water or wash. Is there a some kind of link to our liberation through water that our minds don’t understand, but on a subliminal, unconscious level something happens that liberates?
On an unrelated note, from time to time we miss Buenos Aires. The streets, the noises, walks, so many other things… Tango was magical too. Got this link from Louisa last night:
