To the walls coming down…
After thinking out of the box and shooting for the moon, I remembered that if you love what you do you never work a day in your life. Cliches are dime a dozen, aren’t they?
Coming back to work, I remembered what I slacker I was when I worked (hopefully, HR folks from my previous lives don’t remember me). I remember being at a Google event where we had a privilege to have Eric Schmidt talk to us and he said: “Life is too short to work with people you don’t like”. Well said. What’s the lifespan expectancy when you work without any people? So, realizing that there is only I in my team, I was going to get sad that I don’t have anyone to touch base with, but then quickly consoled with the thought that my entire team is on the same page. Sort of.
So, how was the first day of working? Well, I was tired, confused and was actively considering running away and joining the French Legion. So, it was fun. Louisa would say: ‘it was nice’ 🙂
Speaking of… Louisa came to my office yesterday, later in the day. After she finished commenting on things that I (allegedly) stole from her office, she really liked the space. I told her about my idée fixe about growth, making shit load of money and my future plans to take over the larger office space, surrounding my office, and making it more open floor by knocking down some walls, I poured some vodka (the only beverage in the office; sort of) and was going to propose a salutation toast for the future growth, shit load of money, happiness, etc.. But before I opened my mouth, she said it with a perfect smile: ‘To the walls coming down’. Am I lucky or what?
On a related note: behind every successful man, there is a strong, wise and hardworking woman. A successful man is one who makes more money that his wife can spend. A successful woman is one who can find such a man. My wife is still searching.
