Vicarious living?
I love the Man Men show. Watching it consumes me. Love watching Breaking Bad. Loved. It’s done now. I really enjoyed the show, but Mad Men connects with me on a visceral level. I heard people talk about their love for Lost, 24, Sopranos, The Wire and others. General Hospital has been running for over 200 years and people still watch it. What is it about these shows that makes people truly connect with them? IMDb is a great source to get ratings on movies, TV shows, etc. Legendary movies like The Godfather or Shawshank Redemption are rated very highly. TV shows, that came out less than 3 years cannot possibly be on-par with their ratings, right? Nope, higher. Much higher (in IMBD scale). Is it because the shows magically allow us to be a part? Why does Mad Men’s Carousel moment connects so profoundly with the fan-base? It is brilliantly done, but somehow the Draper family becomes so sentimentally close. Weird.
On an unrelated note, Julie London and her magical voice. I didn’t know much about her, but what a voice and class:
How do you make a coffee song so sensual?
