Sushi.

We haven’t had any sushi in Buenos Aires.  No particular reason, but for some reason, we haven’t had any.  Andrei was insisting on having some the other day, but for some reason we said ‘no’.

Last night went to La Cabrera restaurant.  It’s considered as one of the best steakhouses in Buenos Aires, so it must be good.  Arrived there pretty late from the Children’s Museum, a.k.a. Museo de los Ninos.  A really fun place for kids.  They have two large floors of miniaturized city.  There is a McDonald’s (our kids didn’t quiet understand the coolness of it – they never been to a real one); a bank where they can be tellers, customers, etc; an airline; supermarket with merchandises and money that they can do shopping; medical offices; construction site, etc. – just a cool fun place for the kids.  They spent 3-4 hours there without a notice of time.  (I will ask Louisa to post some photos.)

Back to the restaurant.  The restaurant has two locations right across the street from each other.  Kids are hungry.  Taxi arrives and there are bunch of people standing outside of both locations – a good sign for a restaurant, but not a good sign for parents with hungry kids.  I asked this lovely person on how long is the wait and she said ’30 minutes’.  I told her that the kids are hungry and should we wait or go elsewhere, she said ‘of course, wait’ with an understanding smile on her face.  I figured that will move us to the top of the wait-list.  We went to the bar next door – the girl promised to come get us from there.  A cool small place with whole bunch of rock ‘n roll memorabilia (rock is really big here) and the owner/bartender lonely there.  It was way too early for Portenos to go to this bar. IMG_1952 It was 21:30 (9:30PM).  Kids munched on a small empanada each (like a miniature calzon).  I walked out a few times to check on our position on the list.  She said 10 more minutes 2-3 times.  The idea of going to Skyburger was seriously on the table.  We kept contemplating on leaving, but ’10 minutes’.  We got in around 11 or so.  Food was good – nothing extraordinary.  I don’t eat meat, but I think that this whole notion of Argentina and the best beef thing is a bit of an urban legend.  Came back home.  Andrei wanted to go for a walk.  Walked around our hood until … late.

Oh yeah, back to sushi.  A friend of mine sent me this link today: http://www.buzzfeed.com/h2/HSHBCE2/erinchack/why-no-one-should-mess-with-the-ocean – kinda puts a whole new spin on Nina and Star good night show on the PBS channel, doesn’t it?

Now I really want some sushi.
